OCD Self-help programme
Everybody affected by OCD is impacted in different ways and find themselves in different life circumstances with different financial situations that influence what help they can afford. Not everyone wants or can afford 1-to-1 therapy.
For this reason, Tom has created an affordable comprehensive OCD self-help programme which you can follow to treat your OCD yourself in a more flexible and cost-effective way. It is something you can follow alone or it’s something you could consider using alongside therapy. Tom offers clients who are using the programme 30 minute “add on” appointments for anyone working on their OCD by themselves who wishes to have some professional input and support. He can also compliment the self-help material with standalone 50 minute therapy sessions.
What does the programme consist of?
This programme takes you through 12 modules which are inspired by evidence-based OCD treatment including exposure response prevention (ERP). First, Tom helps you understand where your OCD might have come from, what it looks like and what is keeping you stuck. You will explore the nature of your intrusive thoughts and their relationship with your behaviour or “compulsions”. The course is transdiagnostic, meaning it is relevant for anyone with OCD regardless of theme or whether there are multiple issues going on at the same time. Once your OCD is understood, Tom then guides you through how OCD is treated, helping you maximise your motivation for change and helping you design your own personalised treatment plan. Next, you’ll learn how to apply this to your everyday life and how to work on specific challenges related to treating OCD, from sitting with discomfort, to dealing with mental compulsions/rumination and how to harness the support of your loved ones without falling into the trap of “accommodation”. With a specifically designed OCD tracker and reflective exercises, Tom helps you establish consistency over your OCD - the critical step in recovery. Tom also appreciates that OCD is more than just intrusive thoughts and compulsions. Within the programme, Tom also helps you address other difficulties related to OCD which might be making things more difficult, such as general anxiety, perfectionism and hyper-morality. There are also theme-specific OCD guidance, answers to frequently encountered obstacles and advice for additional support available.
